Test Interfaces for Power Systems

Our Philosophy

Creating a more intelligent grid is not just about intelligent technology, it’s also about intelligent practices that cut costs and save time by increasing efficiency and minimizing the potential for human mistakes.

At SecuControl, we do not just sell products. We offer our customers dramatic cost savings by enabling standardization of protection installations and testing techniques throughout their facilities.

We lead the way to a new substation panel design by replacing hundreds of test switches with efficient space-saving installations tailored to your configurations. With our solutions, the time and expertise required for fail-safe and effective IED testing, calibration and replacement can be significantly reduced.

The SecuControl philosophy is grounded in the proven methods of secondary injection testing. Secondary injection testing involves the isolation of your protective IED from its CTs and VTs and connection to a test set that injects simulated faults into the IED. By measuring and recording trip signal responses, this method of testing ensures that your IED operates exactly as desired with precise thresholds. Moreover, with an intelligently designed interface, secondary injection testing leads to safe and simple standardized procedures and scalable standardized installations.

About Us

SecuControl GmbH
Established in 1995 in Hettstedt, Germany, SecuControl developed the basic switching principle behind all test blocks and plugs in close cooperation with the German grid company 50 Hertz. A working group of the German engineering association VDE quickly adopted the possibilities of this test switch and devised a set of standards to be used by all German grid companies. Over the last twenty years, SecuControl's ITS and IPS lines have been used and proven in all kinds of settings in Germany.

Quality Assurance

The products manufactured by SecuControl consist of individual machine-made parts which are manually assembled. A thorough quality control is in place for all important production steps to both verify the correct fabrication and assembly of all component parts. This way, the high quality standards which have characterized SecuControl for a long time are consistently maintained.

All of SecuControl's products are made of plastic parts as well as metal parts. Most plastic parts are produced in-house at SecuControl's subsidiary, SecuPlastics. Only few small plastic components are currently purchased from external suppliers. The metal parts are in equal amounts produced in-house and purchased from suppliers. Since the contact springs constitute an integral part of SecuControl's products, extra care is put on them and they are produced in-house. They are pressed and bent from raw copper by SecuControl's own metalworkers. All screws, nuts and bolts are purchased from suppliers.

To make the production process more transparent, individual products are referenced with specific labels. All assembled products are clearly labeled with a part number and can be uniquely identified thereafter.

In general, procedures for quality assurance imply tests with measuring devices, manual tests of critical parts and visual checks. Some important steps in SecuControl's quality assurance are listed in the following:

SecuControl's test interfaces entail an easy and safe handling for maintenance procedures of protective panels. They are designed to withstand decades of reliable operation inside electrical installations, with negligible changes in their electrical characteristics. The quality assurance measures installed at SecuControl contribute to a long time of effortless test interface operation and consequently to a high degree of customer satisfaction.
